#### [[ADHD scatter focus coupled with context switch friction make it difficult for ADHD brains to transition away from roadblocked tasks to continue being productive]]
---
When I think of scatter focus what immediately comes to mind is [[@Niklas Luhmann]]'s approach to [[Zettelkasten]] where if was stumped on something or lost interest for a moment he would switch to something else. Another paper, another project, etc.
With [[Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder]], [[Context Switching is painful for ADHD brains|Context Switching]] is an effort in futility. We cannot effectively [[Context Switching is painful for ADHD brains|Context Switch]] to the point of being productive on another task and even more sometimes fixate and hyperfocus^[[[ADHD hyperfocus is a double edged sword of both deep work and avoidance]]] on tasks we know are roadblocked but cant leave because *"I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS"* and to drop it and move in the midst of the task is unbelievably frustrating and almost painful.
Another clinical term for this inability to context switch and fixation on the task at hand regardless of whether you can progress or not is called [[Perseveration similarly to executive dysfunction context switching causes abnormal and intense fixations to the detriment of the individual]].
