#### Basics are the foundation and the subset of material most commonly utilized --- The common adage is that a house cannot be build on a foundation of sand. Just as [[Learning without comprehension is a poor foundation to build spaced repetition on top of]], it is also a tenuous foundation to build further skill upon. Without a fundamental and basic understanding you miss the trees for the forest and are unable to see / act on problems before they arise. The basics permeate any activity because they are by very definition, the basics. The core underpinnings of an activity from which every thing else is pinned on or is derived. Often it is the simplest solution that is preferred. Software as an example; boring code is good code. Code that is simple, easy to read, gets the work done with minimal complexity is vastly preferred. With the basics, if you have a solid grasp of them then you will likely be able to see even simpler solutions to implement that reduce complexity and cognitive load. --- Tags: [[Learning]] - [[Performance]] - [[Foundational]] Links: [[( 2020-09-09 Effective Learning Twenty Rules of Formulating Knowledge]] References: - [[( 2020-09-04 Want to Remember Everything You'll Ever Learn Surrender to This Algorithm]]
