For me, it was Tuesday." > https://astralcodexten.substack.com/p/still-alive Taking note of the [[Neologism]] [[Sonder]] and it definition, people often don't even think of others as full fledged people. Often other people are viewed from and individualistic lens as just *background characters* in our lives. We're too wrapped up in our own narratives to spare thought and consideration towards others and their struggles. In the same vein, because we do not often consider the humanity and depth of other people this also opens the door for man to commit atrocities because [he] views others as less than [himself] and does not believe in the value lost in human life^[[[Infrahumanization]]]. To see another's inherent value and to empathize with them also bring to mind that humans are social creatures^[[[Loneliness feels horrible as an evolutionary mechanism to foster strong community ties in order to boost chances of survival]]]^[[[Performative spirituality is not a hollow show rather it is a means of restoring our spiritual energy communal ties and anchor us to the present]]] with constructs like [[Mirror Neurons]] to improve empathetic communication. Boiling down, a human may commit an atrocious act against another, i.e. *"burning the village to the ground and murdering the inhabitants"* and for the survivor it's the worst day of their life, but for the perpetrator it's *"just another Tuesday"*. > "You took everything from me" > "I don't even know who you are." > *-- Avengers End Game: Scarlet Witch To Thanos* --- Tags: [[Empathy]] - [[Society]] - [[Social Skills]] - [[Psychology]] Reference: Related: - [[No one really cares]] - [[Mirror Neurons]]
