#### [[Uruz]] --- # ᚢ - Uruz [[Uruz|ᚢ]] was the *Aurocks & Oxen* - Livestock with the strength to pull the plow - [[Uruz|ᚢ]] is a rune of strength - of drive ^614772 - The drive to pull and push - To put in the work - To achieve the desired result - of will ^639a9f - The will to do what must be done - To make the choice and back it up with action to the desired ends - All falls short without the will (The whip to the ox) - of stubbornness - "Stubborn like an ox" utilizing will and drive to not give in when all else & all others are on opposite sides of the drawn line - pushing through and persisting - unrelenting will power and consistency of action - of power & might - Pure unabashed strength and power - The power to actually implement the will^[[[#^639a9f]]] steered by drive^[[[#^614772]]] - The ability to execute desired action for desired result - Manifestation - of realities or desires through will^[[[#^639a9f]]] - Wild-strength - "Easy to provoke a bull, not so easy to stop it" - The rune itself looks like a horn or a seax blade edge - With [[Galdr]] [[Uruz|ᚢ]], [[Ansuz|ᚨ]], [[Fehu|ᚠ]], & [[Laguz|ᛚ]] are all breathy runes and do not have a hard sound that adds a hard stop to a Galdur. - They flow in sound. `z`'s v.s. `d`'s - Volatile and not easy to calm, or control - Uncontrolled wild strength of man leading us to conquer the "wild" in our lives - Uncontrolled wild strength drives us to tame the wilderness - strive for "progress" - Tame the wilds - Industry and society - Over time we gain power and control over the wilds and we move to a more [[Fehu|ᚠ]] mindset - Conserve the wilds - Conservatorship - Prosperity and less wild power and more domestic livestock and a calm stewardship of the earth - There's no sport in hunting fish in a barrel - With out power and dominance over nature with tools, guns, and brains it's no longer sport to tame the wilds for the sake of conquering. - Now it's more a matter of accepting our power and role as stewards of the [[Jord|earth]] and care for her. - The battle is no longer subsistence living driving creatures to extinction - Rather it is now about sustainable give and take. Balance. - Young boys are like the Aurocks, wild and powerful but realizing their power is uncontrolled and that violence has unintended consequences leads them to desire a more [[Fehu|ᚠ]] mindset. - Desiring control and taming of their power - to "know their own strength" and control it - To put it towards fruitful ends (the war band v.s. the farm hand) - Not a domesticated Oxen but a wild Aurocks, this rune is NOT tame - You would yoke [[Fehu|ᚠ]] as a domestic livestock animal - You would not attempt to yoke the wild [[Uruz|ᚢ]] - [[Fehu|ᚠ]] lends itself to use (tame cattle) whereas [[Uruz|ᚢ]] is pure force - You can aim this powerful force, but you cannot tame/control it. - Like a Bezerker, they may be fighting for your side - But if you get in front of them, you're dead - you *aim* them at your enemy to channel and aim that power but you do not attempt to control it. - Civilization needs wilderness ([[Jotunn]]'s) - "The heathen heart needs places untouched by the hand of man" - An apt comparison of [[Uruz|ᚢ]] & [[Fehu|ᚠ]] would be to say that - [[Uruz|ᚢ]] is the raging river, there's little you can do to control that - [[Fehu|ᚠ]] is the water wheel. - Serves a useful purpose - It is a tame tool - It is a part of the power of [[Uruz|ᚢ]] but it can serve a domestic purpose for productive ends - Just because [[Uruz|ᚢ]] is dangerously powerful and *CAN* kill you - doesn't mean that it is bad or "out to get you" - Nature has order, its just not an order that human's like to acknowledge because it is harsh, cruel, and unfair. - [[Uruz|ᚢ]] is living by that order and may appear dangerous and unruly but it is wild power incarnate - [[Uruz|ᚢ]] is the energy that sustains, [[Fehu|ᚠ]] is the active element of creative force - Like the power of the sun being focused through a magnifying lens --- | Type | Rune Poem: | English Translation: | |:--------------- |:------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `Old Norwegian` | *ᚢ Úr er af illu jarne;
opt løypr ræinn á hjarne.* | **Dross^[Slag from forging] comes from bad iron;
the reindeer often races over the frozen snow.** | | `Old Icelandic` | *ᚢ Úr er skýja grátr
ok skára þverrir
ok hirðis hatr.
umbre vísi* | **Rain is lamentation of the clouds
and ruin of the hay-harvest
and abomination of the shepherd.** | | `Anglo-Saxon` | *ᚢ Ur byþ anmod ond oferhyrned,
felafrecne deor, feohteþ mid hornum
mære morstapa; þæt is modig ƿuht.* | **The aurochs is proud and has great horns;
it is a very savage beast and fights with its horns;
a great ranger of the moors, it is a creature of mettle.** | --- Tags: [[Norse]] - [[Nordic]] - [[Galdr]] - [[Magic]] - [[Viking Age]] Reference: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Ur_(rune) Related: -
